Okay, so...on with the blog...

What are you looking forward to in the new year?

For me, I'm actually going to start out by telling you what I am NOT looking forward to in the new year.

My youngest child graduating high school.

Not so much because it makes me feel old, and yeah, it makes me feel old, but because she'll be going away to college in the fall. Sure, I've been through this with her three older brothers. Key word 'brothers'. Jestina is not a boy.

She's a very beautiful, talented, slightly naïve girl who is interested in attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia for acting/musical theater and film. We toured U of A this month, and...okay, it's a great fit for her, but, dang, Philadelphia? Pretty big city. Jestina also received a request to audition and visit Rowen University in New Jersey where they may possibly pay half her tuition. She has an audition and tour scheduled with them in January. Her audition song? 'Think of Me' from Phantom of the Opera. Yep, she can actually hit those notes at the end. I know. Insane, right?

So, I'm not looking forward to my daughter graduating high school and going away to college in 2014, but at the same time, I am looking forward to my daughter gaining her independence, experiencing the thrill of striving for her dream, studying and working hard for her dream...and eventually living her dream. After all, far be it for me to tell her not to reach for that star, since I reached for mine and am now living my writing dream!

What am I looking forward to as far as my career in 2014?

I am looking forward to writing more hot, humorous & heartwarming novels, including riding some sexy...I mean writing, writing some sexy cowboys in my Harland County Series. Phew, slip of the keystroke there. Must save the riding for my romagination

Okay, now...where was I? Writing, right. I'm also looking forward to starting the spin-off series-Citizen Soldier Novels-about the Wyne brothers who happen to be National Guard soldiers (other male and female solders will be featured in the series, some may even cross over into Harland County); and writing the 2nd book in my Time-shift Heroes Series. Yeah, that's a lot of writing, but I have to do something with all the voices in my head. lol

Speaking of voices in my head, one of my 2013 novels is up for Best Romance Novel in the Preditors & Editors Poll

HER UNBRIDLED COWBOY, book 2 in my Harland County Series.

If you've read Connor's story, and are so inclined to give it a vote, I'd sure appreciate the support. Here's the link:

HER UNBRIDLED COWBOY also happens to have a
NEW YEAR'S EVE scene I'd love to share:

(set up: Kerri is at a New Year's Eve party, the ball is about to drop, so she ducks into the laundry room to be alone. Of course, the hero follows...)

“Do you think I was just duped?”
Moonlight filtered in through a small window on their right, illuminating his face enough for her to see his expression. Contemplative. He removed his hat, set it on the washer to her left then ran a hand through his hair.
“I’m not sure,” he said after several beats. “Jordan did appear sincere, but well, let’s face it. Your sister’s good.”
Kerri smacked her head back against the wall a few times, closed her eyes and groaned. “I know. That’s the problem.”
Smack. What if this was all a ruse to get her to stay in Texas? Smack.
“Hey.”
She reopened her eyes only to discover she had a bigger, sexier problem standing so close, she couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe, could only feel. The big, hot, sexually potent man crowded her space and she liked it. A lot. But he made her body consider things, want things, needy things she had no idea what to do about.
Smack.
Then the bugger stepped closer still, easing his hand between her head and the wall, being sweet again. Making her heart melt. His other large, strong hand settled ever so lightly on her hip.
“Easy there, darlin’.” His voice was soft and low, their gazes only inches apart in height thanks to her high heels. “It’s not worth hurting yourself over.”
Hurting myself? No. Hitting her head off the wall was meant to knock sense into her, not hurt. But the need and want and hunger suddenly raging inside, that sure as heck hurt. In a fierce way. If she had any sense, she’d run out of the room and not stop until she was miles from this man who could sometimes be so sweet, he had her chest aching with a longing that scared her witless.
She swallowed and opened her mouth, intending to tell him God knows what, when they heard the crowd in the other room start to count backwards from ten.
The New Year was upon them.
With each number called out, his face drew closer, his breath warm on her skin, her heart pounding louder and louder. Three. Two. One. Connor’s hold on the back of her head tightened, and his other hand lifted to gently brush his thumb across her jaw.
“Happy New Year, Kerri,” he breathed.
When she opened her mouth to reply, he covered her lips with his.
And that’s how she rang in the New Year, in the Dalton’s dark laundry room, sharing heat and touches and soft murmurs with Connor McCall.

Her Uniform Cowboy/Book 3/Harland County Series ~ @Donna_Michaels #MySexySaturday

My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop/ Week # 30!

It's the final MSS Blog Hop week of 2013!

A big thank you to all who've enjoyed the weeks of Hopping! Your support is truly appreciated!

Glad you stopped by to enjoy 7 words, sentences or paragraphs from a book or WIP showcased on today's hop.

Now that the 3rd book is released in my sexy cowboy series I'm going to share just a little bit more of my sexy sheriff/soldier/cowboy!

Here's 7 sexy paragraphs of Kade Dalton from Book Three in my Harland County Series:

 Her Uniform Cowboy:

Available NOW at Amazon

A sinful grin claimed her lips as she stared up at him through a heated gaze. “Well now, Sheriff, I would think that was obvious.”

And before he could blink, she stepped back, untied her robe and let it slip to the floor.

Son-of-a-bitch...

He inhaled and swallowed. Audibly. The gorgeous woman had on the sexiest damn pink-laced bra and thong. A fucking thong.

He was screwed.

Somehow he put his tongue back in his mouth and cleared a bit of the fog from his brain. But she was pressing her soft, hot curves into him in a surprise counterattack. Damn, she felt good. Real good. He was having a hard time remaining unaffected. Wicked fingers unbuckled his jeans while she placed open-mouth kisses across his chest, driving him out of his mind. Then she licked his nipple.

Uttering a curse, he jerked back, smacking his head off the door. “Brandi, stop,” he demanded, and twisted their positions, manacling her hands above her head.

Body trembling, chest heaving, spilling out of her damn, sexy lace. Holy shit, she was hot. His groin tightened with a painful throb, and he had to talk himself out of pressing against her and sinking into her willing warmth.

Blurb:

Desperate for change after a verbally abusive relationship, Brandi Wyne leaves a symphony career, her family, and the Poconos to fall back on a designing degree and a chance to renovate a restaurant/pub in Texas. Even though part of a National Guard family, she’d sworn off military men when the last one proved less than supportive of her thyroid condition and subsequent weight gain. Too bad her body seems to forget that fact whenever she’s near the very hot, very military local sheriff.

Texas Army National Guard First Sergeant Kade Dalton never planned on becoming Harland County Sheriff or the attraction to a curvy, military-hating designer from Pennsylvania. Heavy with guilt from the death of a soldier under his command during a recent deployment, and dealing with his co-owned horse ranch and a bungling young deputy, it's hard most days just to keep his sanity. But it’s the Yankee bombshell who threatens not only his sanity, but temps his body...and his heart.

Fighting their attraction becomes a losing battle, and Kade soon finds sanctuary in the arms of the beautiful designer.  But their changing relationship only brings more pressure to his guilt-ridden life...does he really have the right to saddle Brandi with his stress issues? And if so, can he take a chance on the town’s newest resident not abandoning him like others in his past?

“For the last time, you’re not fat.”
“Sure I am, look.” She lifted her shirt, grabbed his hand, uncurled his fist and jammed his fingers on her hip. “See? You can pinch an inch.”
Heaven help him, her warm, supple flesh was too much. Just too damn much. The day had been long and trying, and the woman was hot and trying and willing. He was done. No more fighting the need.
“I can also do this,” he said, tracing her waist, watching her eyes round as he skimmed his hand across her stomach in slow, small strokes. “I’d love to strip you naked and kiss every last inch of you, Brandi.”
 “Y-you would?”
“Oh yeah.” He continued to caress the designer’s soft skin, brushing her ribcage on his way to that damn, sexy black bra that had tormented his mind all day. “And you know what?”
“W-what?”
He brushed a thumb over the rounded flesh just under the lace, his body tightening with each tremor that shook through her mouthwatering curves. “When I finished…I’d do it all again.”

Don't forget to get your FREE copy of Kade's story on Monday!!

Time for My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop
Week # 28!

It's here! The final month of  the year! We've blogged a lot of weeks/months, sharing sexy excerpts and having a ton of fun!

Sure hope your month is going well. Need a break from your shopping/decorating woes? Enjoy 7 words, sentences or paragraphs from a book or WIP showcased on today's hop.

With the 3rd book in my sexy cowboy series due to release this month, hopefully within the week, I thought I'd share a little sexy snippet with you all.

Here's 7 sexy paragraphs of my sheriff, soldier, rancher cowboy, Kade Dalton from Book Three in my Harland County Series:
 Her Uniform Cowboy:

Coming this month. Keep an eye out. Kade will be FREE the first 3 days of his release!

“We all need healing,” he said softly.
She stepped closer, brushing her lips across his palm poised near her face. “Even you.”
“Me? I’m fine.” No way was he delving into that darkness. Brandi and her gorgeous body were much more appealing. Made him feel alive. He trailed his finger across her cheek. “In fact, I’m feeling pretty good right about now.”
She smiled. “Me, too.”
“Good.” He twirled a piece of hair around his finger and tugged her closer. “Let’s see if we can improve on that.”
With his heart knocking a hell of a beat against his ribs, he covered her mouth with his and found what he hadn’t known he was missing. Satisfaction. Completion. Something sappy and sentimental, but he didn’t care. Her lips drew a response from him like no other, fulfilling more than just a physical need. He probably would’ve run like hell if he hadn’t been so caught up in the embrace.
Warm hands slid up his chest to settle at the base of his head as she leaned into the kiss, fingers lightly brushing his neck in a back and forth motion. Killing him. He groaned and dropped his hands to her luscious ass. Her curves felt good in his hands, amazing, even better than he’d fantasized. She moaned, and sweet Jesus, rocked against him, stretching his erection to full tilt.
He broke for air, brushing his lips down the curve of her neck. “Damn, you feel good. I want to be inside you.”

Her Unbridled Cowboy~ @Donna_Michaels #MySexySaturday

Time for My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop

It's Week #27! We're almost to the last month of 2013! There have been twenty-seven Saturdays of sexy excerpts and we've had a lot of fun sharing!

Hope you take a quick break from shopping and enjoy 7 words, sentences or paragraphs from a book or WIP showcased on today's hop.

Since the 3rd book in my sexy cowboy series is due to release in December, I thought we'd revisit Book Two.

Here's 7 sexy paragraphs of my cattle-ranching cowboy, Connor McCall, engaged 3 times/married 0 from my Harland County Series:  Her Unbridled Cowboy:

Available at Amazon

The New Year was upon them.

With each number called out, his face drew closer, his breath warm on her skin, her heart pounding louder and louder. Three. Two. One. Connor’s hold on the back of her head tightened, and his other hand lifted to gently brush his thumb across her jaw.
“Happy New Year, Kerri,” he breathed.
When she opened her mouth to reply, he covered her lips with his.
And that’s how she rang in the New Year, in the Dalton’s dark laundry room, sharing heat and touches and soft murmurs with Connor McCall.
Oh wait, the murmurs came from her, but man, he felt so good. And kissed even better. A mad rush of sensations engulfed and she was lost. Just utterly lost.
Warm, and tasting like beer and sin and long forgotten desire, his mouth moved over hers in a slow, lazy, open-mouthed kiss. She shuddered and slid her hands up over his broad shoulders to play with the short hair at the back of his neck. He groaned low in his throat, then pressed her against the wall, his body hard and deliciously warm. A zing of heat sliced straight to her core.

Her Fated Cowboy~ @Donna_Michaels #MySexySaturday

 My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop

It's Week #25! Can you believe it? Twenty-five Saturdays of sexy excerpts from romance authors who love writing and reading sexy books.

Kick back, relax and get your sexy on in this hop. Enjoy 7 words, sentences or paragraphs from a book or WIP.

Since the 3rd book in my sexy cowboy series is due to release in December, I thought we'd revisit Book One.

Here's 7 sexy paragraphs of my CEO cowboy, Cole McCall, guilt-ridden widower and software engineer from my Harland County Series:  Her Fated Cowboy:

Available at Amazon

“I’m not done with you yet.”
His words and his touch brought a delicious shiver to her skin and anticipation tingled in all her good parts.
“But I need some food to replenish my strength. I say we dig into that meal. You wait here,” he said, giving her a quick kiss on the lips before he headed for the basket.
Feeling more content than anyone had a right to, she stretched and waited for his return. Her stomach growled. Maybe eating wasn’t such a bad idea. The cowboy certainly helped her work up an appetite. When he approached with their food, she sat up and pulled in a breath.
He really was beautiful. Naked. Lean. Ripped.
Naked.
Eyes gleaming dark and delicious under the glow of the nearby hurricane lamp, he placed the food and cooler on the blanket, then kissed her hard, running his hands down her torso. “I think we’d better eat quick. I need to be inside you again.”

Susan Macatee ~ Character Interview ~ Thoroughly Modern Amanda

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Welcome to another Character Interview for one of my fellow 'Roses', who, like me, has one of their ebooks going to print from The Wild Rose Press. This is a fun way to get to know a protagonists from their stories, and one lucky commenter will win a copy of the featured author's print book. So join me every Thursday this month for your chance to win some great books!

This week I have the pleasure of featuring Susan Macatee!

Susan Macatee started writing for publication after her youngest started kindergarten. Once she decided she wanted to write romance fiction, she joined several RWA chapters. She's also a member of the Scandalous Victorians, a small writing group that specializes in Victorian set romance. You can check out their group blog here, Slip Into Something Victorian.

Susan's American Civil War romance stories are not your typical Gone With the Wind variety. Hers encompass everything from time travel, ghosts and vampires, to women soldiers. But, diverse as Susan's stories are, love always finds a way to win out in the end.

Today I'm interviewing Amanda Montgomery from Susan's spicy 159 page time travel THOROUGHLY MODERN AMANDA, just released in print through The Wild Rose Press.

Hello, thank you for being here with us today. Can you tell us your name?

Amanda Montgomery

Where are you from, Amanda?
I was born in Mason, Virginia.
Can you describe yourself in 7 words?
I am ambitious, impulsive, creative, determined, imaginative, resourceful and passionate.

Definitely my kind of heroine. One who can take care of herself.
What is your main occupation right now?
I write stories and articles for the Carver Weekly, a magazine.
Where are you living?
In a small Pennsylvania town called Carver.
How did you feel when you first set eyes on the love of your life?
When I met Jack, I thought he was a workman who'd gotten hurt. He seemed confused and disoriented, but something about him was strange and exciting. I felt compelled to come to his aid.

And I dare say, he was lucky that you found him.
If you could travel, where would you go?
I long to go to the future, where Jack comes from. I want to be a modern woman and the life he describes is beyond exciting.
Do you have a hobby?
I like to help my step-mother in her garden.
What is your main goal?
I want to be a reporter for a big city newspaper.

Thank you, Amanda, for taking the time out to answer my questions. I sure hope you find the excitement you crave. It was great to get to know you a little better and to get a little insight into your story THOROUGHLY MODERN AMANDA now available in print through The Wild Rose Press.

Here is the beautiful cover:

Blurb:

Believing anything is possible, magazine reporter Amanda
Montgomery dreams about being a modern woman in a
nineteenth century world, much like her exceptional
step-mother. But society expects well-off young ladies to
focus on finding a suitable husband and raising a family.
And then Jack appears--with no past and unconventional
ideas. Does he hold the key to another century as well as
her heart, or is she destined to stay in her own time?

Construction worker Jack Lawton wants to preserve an old
home that's scheduled for demolition.  But when he sneaks
inside for a final look, a loose beam falls on the head, and
upon waking, he finds himself in the arms of a beautiful
woman.  His only problem--he's no longer in the twenty-first
century. Can he find his way back home? Does he really
want to?

Excerpt:
"Mother, before I leave for work, I'd like to have a word with you in the parlor."

Erin quirked a brow, but nodded. With the cook occupied at the sink, she gathered her skirts and followed Amanda from the room.

At the parlor door, Erin frowned. "Is there a problem, Amanda?"

She nodded and opened the door to the empty room. She had to find out the truth about Jack and was sure Erin knew more than she admitted.

Motioning her step-mother to take a seat on the settee, Amanda waited, tapping her foot.

Erin sighed, eyeing her. "So, tell me what's wrong."

"Where did Jack come from, Mother?" Amanda propped both hands on her hips.

Erin spread her hands. "How would I know? From his clothing and the place you found him, he must be a workman. But I don't understand why no one else was in the house at the time. He surely wouldn't have been working alone." She shook her head. "And he doesn't seem to remember anything except his name."

Amanda bit her lip. "I don't believe you, Mother. I heard you and Jack talking upstairs."

Erin's eyes widened, but she said nothing.

"He was saying something about the future. And he also uses those phrases peculiar only to you."

"Amanda, I told you those were only stories I made up to entertain you when you were a child."

"So I believed. But no longer. You have a connection with Jack."

"I never met the man before. I swear." Erin raised her hand.

The door creaked open, startling Amanda. Her father stood in the foyer.

"Something wrong, Will?" Erin asked.

Her father stepped into the room. "I was just upstairs with Jack. He needs attending to."

"I'll go." Erin stood. "There are breakfast leavings in the kitchen if you're hungry."

He nodded. "I'll get a quick bite, then I have to get to the bank." He stepped forward and kissed Erin on the lips.

Her step-mother’s face flushed. "See you tonight."

Her father pecked Amanda's cheek, then stepped out, leaving the door ajar.

Amanda grasped Erin’s arm. "I'll see to Jack, Mother."

Erin's brows rose. "Nonsense. You get yourself ready for work, I'll take care of Jack."

Amanda scowled. "But they can do without me for a half hour. You can get started on your new book."

Erin opened her mouth, but hesitated. "I'll have plenty of time to work after I take care of him."

Amanda huffed and left the room. She'd catch her father before he left for the bank, but intended to see Jack and question him further.

THOROUGHLY MODERN AMANDA is available at:
